Ola Founder Bhavish Aggarwal’s AI Venture Krutrim Launches Android App and Unveils Developer Tools

Krutrim, the AI startup founded by Ola’s Bhavish Aggarwal, has launched a standalone Android application for its advanced AI chatbot. This move places Krutrim in direct competition with major players like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, and Microsoft’s Copilot. The launch coincides with the unveiling of new developer tools and cloud infrastructure services aimed at enhancing developer and enterprise capabilities.

According to a report by Moneycontrol, Krutrim’s Android app is the company’s first product powered by its proprietary multilingual large language models (LLMs). This chatbot is capable of assisting users in over 10 Indian languages, with plans to support all 22 official languages by later next year. It is designed to aid users in generating content and providing information across various topics, including daily queries and trending news.

Bhavish Aggarwal, commenting on the unique positioning of the app, highlighted its linguistic capabilities: “Krutrim can understand 22 Indian languages and generate text in 10 Indian languages,” showcasing its deep integration of Indian linguistic nuances.

In addition to the mobile app, Krutrim is also set to launch Krutrim Cloud, aimed at providing cutting-edge GPU resources to boost productivity for developers. “This will offer state-of-the-art GPU hardware that provides superior performance for intensive computing tasks like AI training, 3D rendering, and scientific simulations,” explained Aggarwal.

The platform will allow developers to access and manage leading AI models, including Krutrim’s own, facilitating the creation of sophisticated AI applications. Moreover, it promises real-time monitoring of usage and performance metrics, with scalable GPU resources.

Krutrim’s ambitions do not stop at software. The startup plans to introduce Ola Maps as a mapping and location-based service for developers, leveraging its acquisition of Pune-based GeoSpoc. This service aims to provide comprehensive navigation solutions and optimized journey planning through dynamic mapping technologies.

Looking to the future, Krutrim is preparing to launch Krutrim Pro, a more advanced version of its LLM, which will be multimodal and capable of processing different formats such as text, audio, and video. Scheduled for release in the fourth quarter of FY24, Krutrim Pro aims to outperform other models with its advanced problem-solving and task execution capabilities.

The aggressive expansion plans come on the back of Krutrim achieving unicorn status earlier this year, following a $50 million funding round led by Matrix Partners India. This valuation underscores the significant market confidence in Aggarwal’s vision and the potential of AI technologies tailored to Indian needs and languages.
