D2C brand Basil has secured Rs 3.6 crore in a seed funding round
Consumer houseware startup Basil has raised Rs 3.6 crore in a seed funding round, co-led by IIMA Ventures and Appreciate Capital. Angel investors, including Mohit Sadaani, Koo co-founder Aprameya Radhakrishna, Abhishek Goyal, Malini Adapureddy, and Magicpin co-founder Brij Bhushan, also participated in the round. “The funds will be utilized to strengthen our D2C strategy, expand our presence through e-commerce channels, and diversify our product portfolio,” Basil stated in a press release.
Founded in 2023 by Harini Rajagopalan and Mahesh Muraleedharan, Basil caters to gen alpha and their millennial parents with tailored products. The startup addresses market gaps with its water bottles and Bento boxes, strategically designed to meet consumer needs. “We aim to empower this space with innovative designs, premium materials, functional features, and aesthetic appeal,” Basil emphasized.
Currently, Basil’s products are available nationwide on its D2C platform and on marketplaces like Amazon. The Bengaluru-based company plans to introduce lunch bags for kids and a new range of bento boxes customized for working professionals within the next year. “Our expansion into additional product categories aligns with our commitment to meeting evolving consumer demands,” noted Basil.
In a competitive landscape that includes Rabitat, Vaya, Solara, Milton, and Cello, Basil distinguishes itself through its focus on innovation and consumer-centric design. “We are dedicated to providing high-quality, innovative solutions that resonate with our target audience,” Basil highlighted.
According to Datum Intelligence, the Indian consumer houseware market is projected to surpass ₹507 billion by 2027, indicating significant growth potential for brands like Basil.
